Course Introduction:

 

The IT Management Program is designed to help IT managers develop their leadership skills and business acumen, and effectively manage teams, projects, and processes to deliver superior value. The IT Management core curriculum consists of five modules that cover the fundamentals of successfully managing IT professionals.

 

Course Objectives:

 

 

Participants can learn how to run the IT function of any business strategically by combining your technical know-how with the management skills needed to successfully align the IT function with an organization’s strategic goals. Be brought up to speed on the latest technologies and understand how to create business value with IT systems and processes in any industry.

 

Who Should Attend?

 

This program is designed for IT managers in the central IT function, and distributed IT areas, as well as managers in other functional areas with IT interface responsibilities. Typical participants are high potential IT specialists who are moving into leadership roles that require them to manage teams, personnel, vendors, and relationships, while delivering effective business solutions to their internal and external clients. The program is also suitable for other managers who need to develop a better understanding of the role of IT in the enterprise.

Developing an IT Strategic Plan

This module focuses on developing an IT Strategic Plan, what specific components it should include, as well as tips for successful implementation.

  • Understand basic business strategy concepts
  • Analyze market factors and create a basic strategic plan
  • Apply strategic thinking to IT planning
  • Create greater value for the IT function within an organization

 

Developing a Business Case for IT

This module will focus on developing a business case for IT implementation and development and to gain the buy-in of other company leaders to invest in developing a competitive IT infrastructure.

  • Understand the breadth of the modern enterprise
  • Understand the role of IT in the modern enterprise
  • Apply this understanding to increase organizational performance

 

IT Governance and Project Management

This module will explore the project management aspect of rolling out new IT initiatives.

Understand, remember and explain fundamental project management concepts

  • Analyze the implementation of a new IT initiative
  • Apply state-of-the-art project management tools and techniques
  • Create greater efficiency in managing an IT initiative

 

Managing IT Operations and Risks

In this module, focus is placed on the risks that are involved with implementing new IT systems and tools for mitigating those risks.

  • Understand the risks involved in undertaking a new IT initiative
  • Evaluate the risks involved in undertaking a new IT initiative
  • Minimize the risks involved in undertaking a new IT initiative
  • Understand how risks in IT initiatives impact organizations operationally
  • Create strategies for reducing the growing pains associated with new IT initiatives

 

Managing Outsourced Relationships

Managing third-party vendors and consultants hired to assist with IT implementation will be the focus of the final module.

  • Understand what characterizes effective relationships with third-party IT vendors
  • Apply management principles to these relationships
  • Analyze and evaluate third-party IT vendor relationships
  • Create seamless IT implementations by effectively leveraging IT vendors
