Course Introduction:

 

The course has been designed specifically for the benefit of Senior Project Managers and Engineers who are presently working on major capital multidisciplinary and multinational projects in the Middle East process and construction industry. It is also difficult for those Project Managers and Engineers that are detached from academic institutions to make the time available to evaluate and establish for themselves the real benefits afforded by the new commercially available software tools.



The course has been developed in order to address four key areas pertaining to the issues of improving awareness and knowledge of the more recent developments in Project Management.

 

 

Course Objectives:

 

Upon successful completion of this course, the delegates will be able:

  • To recognize and appreciate the potential benefits that can be obtained by applying efficient and effective management procedures tools and techniques to better understand project objectives, measures and delivery.
  • To appreciate the impact of knowledge management within the project environment and the need to manage ‘knowledge’ over the project life cycle
  • To appreciate the relative position of the project by contrast to National and International benchmarks

This course is primarily intended to allow Senior Managers with a very busy work schedule to take time out and interact with other Senior Executives in a friendly 'knowledge sharing' environment in order to obtain an understanding of current best practices.

 

 

Course Outline:

 

Day 1:

 

Recent developments in the use and application of Project Management tools and techniques as described in the Association for Project Managers Body of Knowledge namely:

  • The Content and Compilation of the Project Execution Plan as it applies to the use of Multinational, Multidisciplinary resources assigned to Major capital Projects.
  • The use of Earned Value Techniques and the use of Key Performance Indicators

 

 

Day 2:

 

  • Contract Management, determining the most appropriate contract framework
  • Appreciation of the difference between Adversarial and Non-adversarial contracts as they apply to LSTK and reimbursable Projects.
  • Program and Portfolio Management

 

 

Day 3:

 

The use of Knowledge Management as it is applied to Project Management:

  • Developing the Knowledge Repository
  • Identifying Knowledge Domains within the project groups
  • Knowledge Management and the application of Lessons Learned
  • The cross-fertilization of knowledge within the Project environment

 

 

Day 4:

 

Project Management Techniques as currently employed across a variety of Global Organizations:

  • Benchmarking Techniques
  • Standardizing Project Measures e.g. Progress, Cost, Quality etc.
  • Controlling and managing change
  • Dispute Resolution and Closure of Contractual Claims

 

 

Day 5:

 

Assessment of current Software Products, Project Audit Procedures and Project Evaluation Techniques:

  • Appreciation of the different commercially available software products presently available for the use of Project Management and the associated knowledge domains i.e. risk, cost etc.
  • The Application of Pre-Sanction interim and Close Out Audits. The Concept of Continual Audit Systems using on-line, real time and web based data
  • The evaluation of project progress using progress measures from site and office bases i.e. Site Activity Day Diary Sheets, Design Progress Measures and Construction Progress Measures
  • The application of Weighting Factors, Installation Factors and overall construction progress milestones
