Environmental Management & Technology (EMT) for Oil and Gas Industry

23-12-2024 - 27-12-2024 3800 Dubai

Course Introduction:

The Environmental Management and Technology (EMT) Research Group was established in 2006 as a result of a merger between the groups of Environmental Management and Environmental Health. The group’s vision is to become a world leader institution in the field of Environmental Management and Technology especially for tropical countries and its mission is to contribute in development of Environmental Engineering and Management through highly qualified and innovative education systems, distinction research, and intensified community services. This research group responds appropriately to global and local challenges in the field of environmental management and technology based on the available resources found in tropical countries.

In this program, you will gain a thorough understanding of the important issues needed by those responsible for environmental performance. The course combines technical environmental engineering fundamentals with management based subjects such as environmental law, regulation, economics, impact assessment, reporting and sustainable development. There is a broad range of specialist units, meaning that you can tailor the course to your particular career aspirations or interests and learn in depth about subjects of particular relevance to you.

Course Objectives:

Upon successful completion of this course, the delegates will be able to:

  • Define and understand the overview of Environmental Management Technology and technologies for sustainable products
  • Carryout techniques of energy surveying and auditing as well determining technologies for Sustainable Manufacture
  • Explain the benefits of sustainable design and methods used in buildings
  • Apply waste management and recycling methods
  • Identify renewable energy sources, industrial water and wastewater management

Who Should Attend?

This course is intended for any scientist, engineer or environmental manager who either has an academic background in process engineering or has relevant practical experience of working in an environmental engineering role in the industry.

Course Outline:

Day 1:

Environmental Management
  • This module is considered core to the Environmental Management and Technology CPS, providing the basic knowledge and an understanding of environmental issues, legislation and the standards and approaches relating to environmental management

Technologies for Sustainable Products
  • Environmental legislation has had a significant impact on manufacturing awareness. Product designers need to be aware of techniques and technologies to support a reduction in the environmental impact

Day 2:

Energy Surveying and Auditing
  • The module provides an introduction to the energy auditing aspects of energy management. It covers the basic principles and practical aspects of undertaking industrial energy audits

Technologies for Sustainable Manufacture
  • Environmental legislation has had a significant impact on manufacturing awareness from waste minimization to efficient use of technologies
  • The aim is to improve the awareness of organizations of environmental issues increasingly affecting manufacturing

Day 3:

Sustainable Use of Buildings
  • The aim of this module is to explore where the major environmental impacts associated with buildings occur and to explain the benefits of incorporating a sustainable design approach to buildings.
  • It will investigate the use of sustainable methods in existing and new buildings and determine the reduction in environmental impacts and possible financial savings to enable the students to put together a design brief for a case study with sketches.

Waste Management and Recycling
  • The module focuses on the framework for waste recycling, including the science and technology, the economics, legislative and the social and cultural aspects.
  • Recycling systems including the technology, materials flows and the financial flows are also explored.

Day 4:

Renewable Energy Sources
  • The module provides a general introduction to the range of available renewable energy technologies.
  • It discusses the advantages and disadvantages of these technologies compared to conventional fossil fuel derived energy.

Day 5:

Industrial Water and Wastewater Management
  • The aim of this module is to extend the understanding of the importance of managing water systems within an industrial/commercial environment and to explain how to evaluate water use and wastewater production and develop a management strategy
  • The CPS Project provides an opportunity to develop a range of project associated skills and to integrate work over a number of different areas and so reinforce the interdisciplinary nature of real engineering problems and solutions
